Drove into Portland this morning and visited the International Rose Test Garden on a high hill overlooking Portland with a lot of beautiful homes reminding us of the houses in Whitefish Bay. There were 600 varieties of roses that were fantastic and the aroma was great.

From the Rose Gardens we went to the Portland Japanese Gardens. Proclaimed the most authentic Japanese garden outside of Japan , the site encompasses eight unique garden styles and includes an authentic Japanese Tea House, meandering streams, waterfalls and walkways. There was also an exhibit of Kabuki which were brightly colored costumes for old Japanese plays.

Had a mid-afternoon meal downtown Portland at Jake’s Famous Crawfish. Nancy had the fresh Halibut stuffed with Dungeoness Crab and I had the Halibut Cheeks that were lightly grilled and finished in a lemon, wine, butter, Parmesan & caper sauce (had a texture similar to Lobster). They both were outstanding and the best fish in our travels this year so far. Had Stoller Chardonnay with the meal, we visited the Stoller Vineyard 3 weeks ago in the Willamette Valley.
